NON-PROFIT CENTRAL FLORIDA
A GUIDE TO NON-PROFITS WITH MISSIONS RELATED TO POVERTY AND HOMELESSNESS
Health Care Center for the Homeless
"To provide quality health care services that improve the lives of the homeless and medically indigent people of our community."
The Health Care Center for the Homeless (HCCH) provides medical care, oral health, and just recently began a mammography program for the female patients. HCCH has the only free optometrist for the homeless in the Central Florida area. The Vision Center is teamed with Lions Club: Project Right to Sight, which provides glasses for the homeless with vision impediments.
HCCH has an outreach called the HOPE Team. In this team staff and volunteers go out to common areas where the homeless live, and attempt to connect them with the services HCCH provides. The HCCH also has a TB shelter, rapid HIV testing, and a pharmacy.
Those with an interest in the medical and non-profit field should consider the HCCH as a place to volunteer, intern, or work. If interested, contact Kate Schmidt at 407-428-5871 ext. 334.
